How Captiva Containers solved a critical ink adhesion challenge

In rigid packaging, decoration is not just about appearance. It must perform reliably throughout the entire production process.

For Captiva Containers, a manufacturer of rigid packaging for beverage, food, household, and nutraceutical markets, that reliability was suddenly under pressure.

Some of their printed bottles are exposed to soaking processes. This is where the issue appeared.

As Luisa Vethencourt, Strategic Project Manager at Captiva Containers, explains:

“We were receiving claims of the ink peeling off after soaking printed bottles.”

A clear indication that the process needed improvement.

Finding a solution that works in practice

Captiva evaluated several solutions to find the right fit for their production setup.

“We tested treatment with different companies, and Tantec offered the most effective solution at a reasonable price.”

The selected solution was a standalone PlasmaTEC-X system, integrated directly into the existing production line.

Built for real production conditions

The solution needed to do more than solve the issue. It had to perform reliably at full production speed.

The system treats PET bottles on two sides, ensuring consistent surface activation before printing. With a capacity of at least 2,500 bottles per hour, it fits seamlessly into the production flow without creating bottlenecks.

By increasing surface energy at a molecular level, the treatment ensures strong and durable ink adhesion, even through demanding processes such as soaking.

The results were tested and verified, showing a clear improvement in adhesion and a more stable and predictable production process.

From recurring issues to consistent performance

After implementation, the improvements were clear.

Ink adhesion became consistent. Complaints dropped to a minimum. Confidence in the final product returned.

“Claims related to ink peeling have become nearly non-existent,” says Luisa.

This reflects a significant operational improvement, but the real impact goes further.

As Luisa Vethencourt adds:

“Client retention is key for our success, and the system is helping greatly with that.”

Because in packaging, reliability is what builds long-term partnerships.

A clear recommendation

When asked whether she would recommend the solution, Luisa Vethencourt does not hesitate:

“Yes, absolutely.”
