APPLICATION SEMINAR
Plasma technology for optimized adhesion
Guest speaker: Professor Dr. Michael Thomas, Fraunhofer IST
April 28, 2026 – Tivoli Hotel & Congress Center, Copenhagen
April 29, 2026 – Hotel Munkebjerg, Vejle
We are hosting two seminars in Copenhagen and Vejle, with the same agenda and the same speakers. Plasma technology opens up completely new possibilities in industrial manufacturing and product design.
Through targeted activation, functionalization, or coating, surfaces can be cleaned in an environmentally friendly manner, new material combinations can be enabled, and new surface properties can be created.
The Controlled Adhesion (COAD®) process developed by Fraunhofer IST represents a new level of controlled surface functionalization for industrial use. In this seminar, we will present the current state of the art in atmospheric and low-pressure plasma, as well as possibilities for process control and surface analysis.
Tantec A/S will explain and demonstrate the latest standards in automation and efficient manufacturing using plasma technologies. Experts from Fraunhofer IST will provide an overview of how plasma treatment and surface analysis interact and show where the technology may develop in the coming years.
Bring your own parts or materials to the seminar and test them directly on a selection of different systems.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Presentation of guest speaker
Professor Dr. Michael Thomas is the head of the Department of Interfacial Chemistry and adaptive Adhesion at the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films (IST), Germany, and has more than 20 years’ experience in surface technology.
Trained as a chemist, his work is focused on fundamental and industrial projects of surface treatment and coatings in the area of plasma processes at atmospheric pressure, with specific interest in adhesion, sustainability and circular economy for wide range of applications.
He has published more than 30 technical papers and professional articles and holds 10 patents on the topic of atmospheric pressure plasma technology.
