In this plasma state, the surfaces of materials like plastics and metals undergo a physical and chemical transformation. The process introduces functional groups (like hydroxyl or carboxyl groups) onto the surfaces, fundamentally altering their surface chemistry.

Vacuum plasma is a suitable technology when your product or part requires treatment on all surfaces. Even 3D parts with hard-to-reach areas, are treated all over and are ensured an even and uniform treatment because of the vacuum that is built up in the treatment chamber.

Vacuum Plasma treatment is conducted in a controlled environment inside a sealed chamber, which is maintained at a medium vacuum, usually 2-12mbar. The gas is energized by an electrical high-frequency field. The chamber is now filled with plasma, and all surfaces are ensured treatment.

The process is fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly. It’s also cost-effective, as it can eliminate the need for expensive pre-treatment processes.

With Vacuum Plasma Technology, you can achieve:

– Even and uniform treatment on all surfaces of three-dimensional parts
– Treatment of large parts
– Surface modification without affecting the bulk material.
– Cost efficiency and long-lasting durability of adhesion properties
– Environmentally friendly solution

Main areas to improve by Surface Treatment

Vacuum plasma technology is a powerful tool that can significantly enhance the performance of your product. The technology provides significant benefits to a product by improving its performance and durability.

By treating the surface of your material, you can improve its wettability, adhesion, and durability.

– Adhesion is the ability of ink, glue, or coating to stick to the surface, which can be improved by surface treatment

– Wettability refers to the ability of a liquid to spread out over the surface, which can also be enhanced

– Surface treatment can also improve the cleanliness of the surface by removing contaminants, making it more suitable for further processing

Improved wettability by Vacuum Plasma Technology

Wettability is an important area that can be significantly improved with surface treatment using vacuum plasma technology. A slippery surface that does not allow anything to stick can be etched by plasma treatment, allowing for better grip and adhesion of ink, glue, and coatings. Plasma treatment increases surface energy, which makes it easier for a liquid to spread out and form a thin, continuous film.

Wettability of a surface is measured in dynes, which determines the degree of wetting of a surface. After plasma treatment, the dyne level of the surface is increased, indicating the surface’s wettability has improved. This ensures that inks and coatings can adhere to the surface evenly.

Appearance of the product

One of the advantages of plasma treatment is that the process does not change the appearance of the product. The product looks the same before and after the treatment, and you can’t tell if anything has been done to it without a dyne test. Therefore, plasma treatment is a desirable option for manufacturers who want to improve the wettability and adhesion without altering the product’s appearance.

The vacuum plasma process

Vacuum plasma technology can significantly improve the wettability and adhesion of your material by modifying the surface properties. Here’s how the process works:

– The material is placed in a vacuum chamber

– The chamber is evacuated to remove all air and gas

– The chamber is filled with a gas, usually argon or oxygen

– An electrical discharge is created through the gas, which ionizes the gas particles and creates plasma

– The plasma is directed towards the surface of the material, which modifies the surface properties

– The modified surface now has improved wettability and adhesion properties
